With Glenn Jones

Now, if you’re all sitting comfortably, I will tell you a story……

When I was 17, I had a girlfriend…. Let’s call her Jo as that was her name. Jo lived about a 40 minute walk away from my house in Essex and I used to spend a lot of my time walking between her house and mine, generally at night. One Christmas or birthday, I can’t remember, I got a Sony Walkman (look it up kids) so I could now be entertained by music while I trudged through the Essex darkness.

One of the albums I had at the time was “Glenn Jones” by the man himself. I have no recollection as to why I bought said album but it quickly became one of my favourites and I would listen to it constantly. ┬áThe mixture of soul grooves and crystal clear 80’s production was, literally, music to my ears.

Now fast forward to 2012 and I was fortunate enough to be booked to perform at a festival in France for a French promoter called Soirez Funk. The festival was to feature Philly legend Garfield Fleming and who else…? Mr Glenn Jones!! This really was going to be quite monumental for me and I set about learning many of the songs that had played such a pivotal role in my youth. Don’t tell anyone but I even shed a little tear as we kicked into 80’s groove gear with “We’ve Only Just Begun”.

I performed with Glenn again at the Indigo2 in London in 2013 and as I write this, I’m excited about sharing the stage with one of my idols again on July 4th 2015 at The Hayling Island Soul weekender in Hampshire, UK. I’m very proud to be part of his first-call UK and European band.
