In the studio with Artful...

For those of you old enough to remember the heady days of the late 90’s, you will no doubt be familiar with the band Artful Dodger, who unleashed their 2-step garage sound to the nation with the album “It’s All About The Stragglers” and the UK no 2 single “Re-Rewind” featuring Craig David.

The band consisted of Pete Devereaux and Mark Hill and after Pete left in 2001, Mark continued under the same name, also co-writing and producing Craig’s huge selling “Born To Do It” album and subsequent follow-up recordings.

In the studio with Artful...

The Artful Dodger continues under the ownership of the record label with MC Alistair and DJ Dave Low but Mark Hill now writes, records and DJs under the name ARTFUL.

Mar is currently in the studio recording a solo album and has teamed up with a plethora of wonderful artists who have all be keen to record with the Ivor Novello winning producer. Artists such as Eliza Doolittle, MNEK, Becky Hill and Ed Drewitt have been hot-footing it down to sunny Hampshire to add their weight to what is rapidly becoming avery exciting project indeed.

I’m very lucky to count Mark as a friend and I’m always excited to hear what he’s been up to in the studio. I had the honour of playing in his band recently and we did a set of gigs playing some old Dodger tunes, as well as some new material. We were joined onstage by many of the original Dodger artists such as Lifford and Michelle Escoffery and also established artists Terri Walker and Donae’o, who were keen to perform the classic garage anthems.

I have added my bass magin to a track on Mark’s forthcoming album, a track which, at least for now, is called Take It Easy…..

Watch this space for more album news as it happens…….
