imageOn 21 March 2015, the UK-wide event “Learn To Play Day” once again offered the general public the chance to have a free ‘taster’ lesson on a musical instrument. In 2014, 117 venues put on events ranging from music shops to music services and even churches! People who have never played and people who used to play, all came on the day to try an instrument.
This year I went to Nevada Music in Portsmouth and joined Dielle from Igloo Music, along with Nat and Konnor, to provide 100 free lessons in guitar, piano, ukulele, bass and drums, plus group workshops and masterclasses throughout the day.
Many of the Igloo Music students took to the stage and performed for the mingling masses and we were treated to performances of popular songs as well as original compositions.

The theme for the day was 80’s music and the songs chosen for the workshops were all 80’s classics. First-time drummer Viv took to the kit for a rendition of Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” and Sarah took over for a speedy cover of Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love”, albeit the Northern Soul version!

The store was crowded with eager new musicians, both young and old and everyone had a great day!!
